EMoS 2nd Cohort Students

On the 16th of January, the 2nd cohort of CENIT@EA students got officially welcomed at the Nelson Mandela African Institution for Science and Technology during the university’s Welcome Week. Students from all the EAC Member States are joining the Centre of Excellence to start the needs-driven Master in Embedded and Mobile Systems (MSc EMoS) and become digital pioneers. Over 30% of the incoming students are women. This is a great success taking into consideration women’s low participation in ICT-related fields. The welcoming ceremony was followed by an Innovation Day on Friday, 17th January, where students from the first cohort of the MSc EMoS showcased the innovative solutions they are creating to solve problems of the private and public sector in East Africa Among the presented projects where a low-cost security camera detector that combines Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to make security services accessible across all income levels.  Moreover, a student presented his solution to help monitoring pupils’ school attendance in order to help solve the problem of school dropouts. In addition to these presentations, an exhibition was organized on campus where more projects where displayed and new students, as well as interested visitors, had the opportunity to ask questions.
